Contaminated Sites,
Environmental Site Assessment (EAS)
In times of rising environmental awareness and conservation of resources, the significance of controlled demolition
of structures and remediation of contaminated sites is rapidly increasing. Potential clients, developers
and investors must be able to rely on technically competent and economical consultation services, to be able
to minimize the risks of additional costs and extended time schedules. Therefore, in advance of real estate purchases and prior
to any construction works, it is of utmost importance to achieve planning reliability (sound planning and budgeting),
based on detailed site investigations (ESA).
Environmental Site Assessments (ESA), start off with a desktop and historic research (desk due diligence and phase 1) ,
to check for, follow up and document a history of previous industrial landuse, followed by orientation (phase 2a)
and detail (phase 2b) site investigations with soil, soil vapor and water sampling and assessment.
Next to the actual environmental site assessment, waste material assessments are inevitable in construction works.
This necessitates declaration assessments prior to or during construction works.
In addition, work- and site-safety plans must be developed, to limit impacts on the environment and on human health at such sites,
to tolerable levels during excavation works or demolition of existing structures and buildings.
The final assessment of the site includes recommendations for technical measures, the quantification of
masses and costs and the setting of time schedules.
The brief description above can only highlight a few aspects of environmental/ contaminated site investigations,
due to the complex nature of of the subject. Individual solutions are always developed for each new project considering site specific conditions.
Because of its wide range of expertise, the Soil Mechanical Laboratory Gumm is able to develop solutions for any issue that may postulate itself
in the field of environmental/contaminated sites.
Our involvment with a project already begins in the planning stage, with recommendations/development for workscope and BOQ ,
and because of our wide range of expertise we can accompany and oversee all project phases, thereby also rendering specialised services.
Our extensive experience in planning and site supervision in the field of Engineering Geology, gained in a wide variety of projects,
ensures that onsite environmental activities, such as cleanup or remedial action are always organized and conducted in a such a way,
to ensure minimum interference with construction works underway at the same time.
